Octobre 1928. La jeune Annemarie Schwarzenbach quitte Zurich pour Paris, ses fêtes et ses rues sales. Des nuits de Montparnasse, qu’elle fréquente assidûment, elle tire ces récits inédits. Racontés par une voix androgyne, ils offrent une plongée queer et mélancolique dans le Paris de l’entre-deux-guerres, évoquent la beauté des femmes, notre fragilité, l’exil et la solitude. Surtout, ils disent un besoin éperdu de comprendre et d’être comprise, d’être aimée.
Peu après, Annemarie rencontrera ses âmes soeurs, Erika et Klaus, les enfants de Thomas Mann ; à eux non plus, le monde ne convenait pas.
Biography
Journaliste et écrivain née en 1908 à Zurich, Annemarie Schwarzenbach s'engagea dans la lutte contre le nazisme auprès de ses amis Klaus et Erika Mann.Ses voyages à travers le monde lui inspirèrent des textes importants, tels que Orient Exils et Où est la terre des promesses ? (Payot, 2012). Aux Etats-Unis, elle se lia avec Carson McCullers qui lui dédia Reflets dans un oeil d'or. Dépendante de la morphine, elle mourut des suites d'un accident en 1942, à trente-quatre ans.
