Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894) was a famous Scottish writer known for his adventure and horror novels. He is particularly renowned for his masterpiece "Treasure Island" (1883), which has captivated the imaginations of readers worldwide. Stevenson also wrote "Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde" (1886), a tale exploring the duality of human nature. His vivid writing style and talent for creating unforgettable characters made him one of the most beloved writers of his time. Stevenson traveled extensively and drew inspiration from his experiences, reflected in his exotic and adventure-filled narratives.
Biographie
Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894) est né à Édimbourg, en Écosse.
Ayant reçu une éducation presbytérienne, il s'émancipe dès l'âge de dix-sept ans en entrant à l'université et mène une vie bohème. Il se consacre alors à l'écriture et au voyage. Il est l'auteur de nombreux romans dont L'Île au trésor, Voyage avec un âne dans les Cévennes ou encore ce chef-d'oeuvre : L'Étrange Cas du docteur Jekyll et de M Hyde. Il meurt à Apia, dans l'île d'Upolu (Océanie). Cet auteur majeur du XIXe siècle a su enchanter petits et grands lecteurs.
Michel Le Bris, romancier et créateur du festival " Étonnants Voyageurs ", est un spécialiste mondialement reconnu de Stevenson, auquel il a consacré une monumentale biographie, Les années bohémiennes.
