Né à Pourrières (Var) le 31 juillet 1851, Germain Nouveau, après avoir songé à embrasser le sacerdoce, vient à Paris où il rencontre Verlaine et Rimbaud. Ses premiers poèmes lui assurent la notoriété. Déchiré entre la sensualité et le mysticisme, il termine sa vie en de nombreux voyages et pèlerinages. Il meurt à Pourrières en avril 1920.
