Ce qu’en dit l’éditeur
When a curious visitor follows his friend Lanrivain to Kerfol, a remote Breton château long whispered to be the most romantic house in the region, he finds not beauty but silence, decay, and an almost physical sense of buried sorrow. The estate's fortress walls, empty avenues, and mute, watchful dogs create an atmosphere so uncanny that the place seems less inhabited than haunted by memory. What begins as a brief visit becomes an encounter with a legend of ghostly animals and a long-forgotten tragedy. Drawn into an old legal record, he discovers the story of Anne de Cornault, a young woman married off to the stern, wealthy Yves de Cornault and confined to his isolated home. What first appears to be a privileged marriage hardens into a portrait of emotional imprisonment, jealousy, and terror, especially after Yves kills Anne's beloved little dog. As the court presses her to explain her husband's murder, Anne's testimony uncovers secret meetings with Hervé de Lanrivain, hidden messages, and a household where tenderness is punished and even the smallest act of compassion becomes rebellion. Gothic, eerie, and psychologically charged, Kerfol turns a murder mystery into a haunting study of love, cruelty, and the voices that linger after violence. This edition has been fully restored with modern typesetting, custom cover design.
