Ce qu’en dit l’éditeur
In the winter darkness of Revolutionary Paris, fear moves faster than kindness. An elderly woman, half-blind and dressed in the faded remains of aristocratic elegance, flees through deserted streets, convinced she is being shadowed by a spy, and finds brief refuge in a pastry shop where a young couple's pity is quickly overtaken by terror under the Revolution's brutal logic. Their sudden reversal captures a city in which charity itself can seem fatal, and where every stranger may be an informant, a victim, or both. Her flight leads to a hidden house on the outskirts of Paris, where an aging priest is sheltered by two elderly nuns scarcely prepared for the world's violence. There, an enigmatic visitor arrives and asks for a Mass for the murdered Louis XVI, drawing the household into an improvised funeral liturgy of haunting solemnity. In the poor attic chapel, poverty and grandeur meet as prayer becomes an act of defiance, grief, and loyalty. Yet the stranger remains elusive, offering only a bloodstained relic and a trail of unexplained protection. As the sisters slowly realize they have been secretly sustained by an unseen benefactor, the mystery deepens. After Robespierre's fall, the abbe finally glimpses the truth in Paris and is left shaken by the stranger's identity, confronting the lingering moral wreckage of the Terror. Biographie
